Two Lanes

46 games · 2/2

Racing is the easiest genre to split on one keyboard, because two people only need throttle and steering, not ten separate keys each. This section keeps short tracks with two clear lanes, or two cars starting from the same line on one screen, finishing within a few minutes. We accept two-player racing, lap-based racing, and races against a machine opponent as long as both cars stay visible in the frame. We reject open-world driving with a single driver, games that require engine upgrades bought with in-game money, endurance races measured in hours, and anything that only shows half the track. Keys go like this: the left player holds W to accelerate, S to brake, A and D to steer; the right player holds the up arrow to accelerate, the down arrow to brake, and the two side arrows to steer. Space is the left player's handbrake, Enter is the right player's handbrake, and nobody touches the other person's keys even while losing. One small thing that helps: set the two chairs about a hand's width apart so your shoulders do not collide when you both lean into the same corner.
